Marineland FL opened during St Augustine's heyday as a resort playground for the rich. Opening its doors in 1939, Marineland FL was advertised as an "Oceanarium" where guests could watch sea animals such as whales, dolphins and sharks live. Visitors watched through two large tanks, one that was 400,000 gallons and circular, and another that was 450,000 gallons and rectangular, as amazing sea creatures swam through the aquariums as they would the sea off the coast of the city of St Augustine. After a few years of success, the former Marineland FL closed its doors. This would not be the end of Marineland FL though. In 2006, Marineland FL reopened and the newly renovated Marineland Dolphin Conservation Center is a big hit with visitors to the Old City.

The 2006 renovations to Marineland FL meant that the old aquariums would be demolished, however this did not mean that visitors could no longer view sea animals in their natural habitats. Today, at Marineland FL you can watch the dolphins and other sea life through 6 by 10 foot windows. With a general admission ticket you can explore the Conservation Center and watch the dolphins through the windows, however this is not all you can do at Marineland FL. If you purchase an additional ticket to one of the special programs at Marineland FL you can take part in a host of activities like feeding the dolphins, training the dolphins, and even swimming with live dolphins! By far, the swimming with the dolphins experience is the most popular, but all of the special programs are fantastic to enjoy on your St Augustine Beach Vacation.
